The Shark i Robot Vacuum

The Shark i robot vacuum is a great mid-range robot. It does a great job of cleaning and robots that vacuum and mop has some cool features.

It cleanses floors thoroughly and utilizes a row-by -row pattern. It is also good on rugs, and can move over tassels of rugs.

Features

The Shark i has a number of outstanding features, such as its intelligent navigation technology and self-emptying dock. Its IQ navigation uses an array of grids to clean room-by-room, meaning that no area of your home is left unnoticed. It also emptys the trash bin into the baseless bagless after every cleaning.

The vacuum can also be controlled by Amazon Alexa and the SharkClean App, so there’s no need for an additional remote. The vacuum also has a button on the top to manually operate the vacuum.

The app allows you to create an account for your vacuum, label it, schedule cleans, and view cleaning history. You can also set virtual boundaries to prevent the vacuum from getting into areas where it might get stuck or knock over something fragile. You can also set different power modes, so you can save energy on tough jobs.

Other important features include its NeverStuck technology as well as a pair of grippy wheels that help it overcome obstacles such as stairs or floor transitions. It can detect and maneuver around obstacles like electrical cords. This is helpful for pet owners who have small shedding cats or dogs.

The i comes with three power settings. There’s an Eco Mode which is energy efficient and a Normal Mode by default, and a Max Power mode. You can also make customized cleaning schedules for specific rooms or floors, which is ideal if you live in a large home that requires frequent cleanings.

The i is able to be programmed to return to its dock and empty its dustbin however, you must keep an eye on the battery life because it often overestimates the amount of runtime left. It can also be confused and restart if you tell the i to clean the entire home, so you have to be careful when you start or stop it.

Design

The Shark i robot has a sleek design and a premium appearance. The main drive wheels are covered with rubber treads, giving the robot excellent maneuverability. It is small and can fit under most pieces of furniture. It is able to climb over high-pile carpets and fit under couches despite its size.

The robot is equipped with multiple sensors such as boundary and cliff sensors, that allow it to map your house. It also includes a vision module that can detect and avoid obstacles. The app allows you to control the robot’s settings and schedule cleaning times, and see its cleaning history. The app is simple to use, however it does not permit you to create virtual no go zones.

The Shark i robot can be an ideal choice for unfinished floors. However, it’s not able to remove large amounts of debris, like pet hair. It also gets stuck on surfaces that are cluttered. Its dirt compartment can also get stuffed, making it difficult to empty after a cleaning session. The vacuum doesn’t have a self-emptying dock. You’ll have empty the dust bin manually when it becomes full.

The battery life of the vacuum is short and often it will run out before it is able to return to its home base. It’s also noisy and the app does not allow you to select certain areas to clean. As such, it’s best used in combination with another robot vacuum and mop vacuum, and not as a standalone machine. However, the benefits of being able to delegate your vacuuming tasks to a robot is undeniable. The iRobot Roomba has superior mapping and navigation abilities and also an auto-emptying dock that can empty itself. It’s also a little cheaper than the Shark i robot.

Cleaning Performance

The Shark IQ vacuums efficiently, even though it’s difficult to get used to the robotic sound. It doesn’t get confused and reverse steps like other Shark robots that vacuum and mop (content), like the ION85 or the RV871. The iQ also does a good job of mapping your home’s layout by creating a map in the app that lets you name rooms so that it can determine where to go, thereby making it more efficient than ION 85 in terms of not wasting time going over the same areas over and over again.

It struggles with bare floors or rugs. It can pick up small particles but pet hair as well as larger objects like rice and cereals can overwhelm it. The dirt compartment may grow quickly and suction power will diminish as it fills. This robot is not suitable for bare floors or carpets with high piles. It also gets blocked when it comes into contact with furniture that is tangled, or furniture that is tipped.

It’s a breeze to clear these problems by emptying the bin from its base. It also automatically emptys its contents into the bin when it is full, which saves you the effort of emptying the trash bin after each run. The extra-large bin requires emptying every 30 days. This can lower costs for ownership in the long run.

You can also use the SharkClean app to set different cleaning settings, view its battery life, create schedules, look at your history of cleaning and set virtual boundaries that prevent it from entering rooms where it might be stuck or hit fragile objects. The iQ can also be controlled by remote control, which features the ability to direct it around your home.

Battery Life

Even when in its high-suction «Max» mode the vacuum has a long battery life. It can run up to an hour in this mode and that’s more than enough time for most cleaning sessions. It also comes with a more efficient ‘Eco’ mode, which extends its maximum runtime to over 160 minutes. This feature is beneficial when you often switch between rooms or are worried about running out of batteries while using the robot.

The robot vacuum also comes with a number of impressive automation features. The companion app allows you to see the remaining battery life, direct the vacuum to a certain area, stop or robots that vacuum and Mop restart cleaning, and choose different power modes. It can also be controlled by voice commands, if own a Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa device compatible with it. It is equipped with physical boundary markers to keep the robot out of certain areas.

This Shark model is adept in maneuvering, but it struggles to remove large debris, especially if the dirt compartment is stuffed. It’s also susceptible to get stuck on tassels for the rug or electrical cords. It can become stuck between the legs of chairs.

Overall, the Shark IQ robotic vacuum is an excellent choice for those who want an entry-level robot with decent mapping capabilities and simple-to-use features. However it’s not a superior alternative to the Roborock S7 for most purposes. It’s more sturdy and more robust, and has lower maintenance requirements, incurs lower recurring costs, charges quicker, offers an extended battery life, and performs better on bare floors and carpets, and is able to move over obstacles more easily.
