The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint, and dust from the floor before they settle. They can also stay clear of obstacles like furniture that is tippy and staircases.

The majority of robotic vacuums require maintenance. This involves emptying the bin (and sometimes, rinsing it) and cleaning the cameras and sensors. They also require to be connected. Many come with smartphone applications for scheduling, setting and more.

iRobot Roomba 980

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the most recent in the line of top-of-the-line robot vacuum for carpet vacuum cleaners that are a staple in any modern home. This model comes with a HEPA-filter to aid those suffering from allergies. It also has an extremely powerful battery that can clean for two hours, and return to its dock automatically once the bin is full.

Smart mapping is another feature that allows it to identify areas of your home that require attention and provides a path for cleaning around them. We’ve seen this technology in action and it does a good job of maneuvering around toys that have been abandoned on the floor, or furniture legs that stick out of the ground. It also has a camera that will snap the Roomba back to the real world when it starts drifting from its intended location.

irobot vacuum has also introduced a new set of rollers underneath the bottom of the Roomba that don’t have bristles and therefore tend to resist tangles better than previous models. The rollers are also larger and can be placed under low couches or beds. They’re designed to make this model more movable on various flooring types.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other models of this class, Irobot vacuum though, is its integration of the new dirt detection feature that uses a camera to spot particles of dirt embedded. This is an improvement over the previous version that relied on the use of a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover to bounce around the room and scrub the entire area three times at various angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored very well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a decent job of picking up pet hair, but it struggled with extremely thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.

Despite these small shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our most efficient robots, and it’s not even far from being as costly as the other top-of-the-line models on this list. It has a lot of features you’d expect from a flagship model but does not have all the fancy apps or smart home integration that you’ll see in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready to use as soon as you are ready to. After you have removed the battery pull tab and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you have to connect it to its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, press its large «Clean» button and let it get to work. It will automatically return to docking station when it is running out of battery or becomes full of sand. There are also indicators on top that indicate the bin is empty, or when it needs to recharge, or when it loses Wi-Fi.
