Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos
The best way to keep your home tidy is to use a robotic vacuum. It can pick up dust, pet hair and other debris on surfaces.
Certain robots can connect to smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free environment. Find models that can be recharged and continue cleaning where they left off.
1. iRobot s8
This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is an excellent option for households with a variety of. It features a superb navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with a lot of features and control options that can be accessed through the app. It has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas where you don’t wish it to go. As with all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it even more efficient over time.
It’s costly but it’s also among the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It has a high-powered battery that can vacuum a large area in less than two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping at the touch of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the dust bin after each run, this one automatically emptys into a larger waste container above its charging dock.
It comes with a variety of other features that make it a good option for most homes that include intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses both a camera and cheaper processor-powered intelligents to identify obstacles. It rarely gets derailed or entrapped during a cleaning cycle, and it’s the best at avoiding power cables as well as other objects in my tests. It is not as accurate at detecting pet waste or other hazards.
2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8
Although Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it’s never offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. That’s changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive array of modern features that can compete against more expensive models.
Eufy’s main selling point with this device is its laser navigation. The X8 utilizes the laser mapping system, which is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It also takes a lot less time to create an accurate map of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is ideal for multi-floor homes.
The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It is able to easily throw debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. The tyres are adept at hugging corners and edges, despite being circular. It’s not the best cat litter eater, however our tests have shown it is able to remove around 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.
The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is good for spills that aren’t too big, you can’t limit the amount of water it uses, which will limit its effectiveness on more severe staining. It is effective in removing hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Known for quietly effective home appliances, Miele’s RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, stunning design, and a great navigation. However, it does have a few operational oddities that prevent it from being ranked as the best overall smart robot vacuum.
The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology which uses LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras to detect and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is mapped, the app lets you create virtual no-go zones as well as preferred areas that the robot will automatically clean. You can also change the cleaning options, begin an automatic clean, or view a live feed of the cameras onboard from the main screen.
The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions in a flash. And its sweeping and suction power are top-notch cleaning up surface debris from carpets of medium pile and cheaper dust in bare floors. However, it’s not the most flexible robot available. Like many other robots, it’s not a good climber and has trouble with things like metal threshold transition strips.
Some people buy robot vacuums due to the ease of setting up a schedule in an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. But it’s important that a robot is able to do the job that’s the reason why our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most well-known models to help you choose the right one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but comes with some extra features and better performance. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses those to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump detector and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum from stepping on steps makes it one our most agile vacuums.
In our tests, it effortlessly climbed over thick shag rug and didn’t end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation skills were impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet beat the competition, and it picked up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded dog hair that we tested in our lab samples.
Its controls are a bit simpler than the competition; there’s an uniform cleaning button on the top, and you can access it via the app or cheaper by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, create no-go zones and view its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and is attractive in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also a breeze.
5. Eufy 11S
If you’re looking for a simple, no-frills robot vacuum at a low price, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It’s not equipped with some advanced features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping found in higher-end models. If you don’t need these features, you could save money.
This robot is easy to use and set up. It doesn’t require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does have the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you select different modes and alter the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to assign the robotvac to an cleaning schedule.
In our tests during our tests, the 11S was very effective at removing pet hair and dirt on hard floors and carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to get under furniture and other low items that some of the more bulkier robots couldn’t reach. It was able to go easily over thresholds of doors and switch between floors of different types to another.
Like other robots, the 11S will be able to suck up objects, such as cords drawstrings for hoodies and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you avoid this by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organiser whenever possible. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin regularly by replacing the filters and washing or changing the brushes as required.
iRobot Roomba 990
The Roomba 980 is the flagship robot vacuum. It’s expensive but it’s the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than its competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary lines using its mobile app. It’s a capable robot vacuum, even though its application is a bit slow and the 980 spins out when it is pushed over cables.
One thing we really like about the 980 is that it makes use of its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous mapping and localisation technology (or vSLAM) to memorise the floor plan of your home. It will use this information to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient auto vacuum cleaner than many high-end robotics.
The 980’s other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, which pick up dirt from hard floors and carpet as well as an ejector brush that moves debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate between furniture and around edges, and Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from falling down stairs. It will also return to the base station for easy recharges between sessions. Although the 980’s battery lifespan and bin size aren’t quite as impressive as other robot vacuums, it’s a solid and reliable machine that can keep your floors spotless for hours and hours.
